High School Math Teacher

Calumet, MI

Copper Island Academy is seeking a High School Math Teacher (Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry) to join its outstanding educational team beginning in the Fall of 2026.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field.
  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate for High School Mathematics or ability to obtain.
  • Proven experience teaching mathematics at the high school level preferred.
  • Strong understanding of Finnish education practices and a commitment to integrating them into daily instruction.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Passion for fostering a joy-filled learning environment.
  • Criminal background check required

Duties:

  • Mathematics Instruction:
    • Develop and implement engaging and differentiated math lessons aligned with the curriculum and Finnish education principles.
    • Foster a growth mindset among students, encouraging them to embrace challenges and learn from mistakes.
  • Promoting Student Independence:
    • Implement instructional strategies that empower students to take ownership of their learning.
    • Encourage self-directed inquiry and critical thinking skills through inquiry-based and real-world tasks.
  • Hands-on Learning:
    • Integrate hands-on, practical applications to deepen mathematical understanding.
    • Design collaborative projects that promote teamwork, communication, and reasoning.
  • Career Awareness Opportunities:
    • Embed career connections into math instruction to highlight real-world applications.
    • Support students in exploring how mathematical skills connect to future pathways.
  • Assessment and Feedback:
    • Use formative and summative assessments to monitor progress and guide instruction.
    • Provide timely, constructive feedback that supports continuous growth.
  • Collaboration and Professional Development:
    • Collaborate with colleagues to create a cohesive and supportive learning environment.
    • Participate in ongoing professional development and reflective practice.
  • Parent and Community Engagement:
    • Maintain positive communication with families regarding student progress.
    • Engage community partners when appropriate to enrich learning experiences.
